After years of fundraising,
planning, construction, and reorganizing the Studebaker National
Museum's new facility opened in October 2005. The design of
the new facility is reminiscent of former Studebaker buildings
built in the 1920s and 1930s, and blends in nicely with the
architecture and design elements of the surrounding neighborhood.
The Studebaker National Museum in South Bend, Indiana displays
a variety of vehicles produced by the Studebaker
Corporation. In November 2005, the museum opened a new building,
attached to the Northern Indiana Center for History. The collection
includes more than 70 vehicles and numerous photos and displays
as well as a huge archive of photos and documents not on display.
The collection focuses on the century-long history of the Studebaker
Corporation and the wagons, cars, trucks, military vehicles,
and carriages it built. Among the many highlights of the exhibit
are several Studebaker Avanti models. The new museum is located
at 201 South Chapin Street, South Bend, Indiana. Studebaker

| Standing out from the historic Studebaker
models in the museum is this Studebaker
Sceptre concept car designed in 1963 by Brooks Stevens.
Stevens also designed the 1962 GT Hawk. The Sceptre
was intended as a possible 1966 model so it could be considered
the last Studebaker. What
a shame this car was not in the Studebaker
showrooms when the Avanti arrived in the summer of 1962. |
