  Studebaker Factory
The Studebaker finishing plant in upper Manhatten in N.Y.C. has been renovated
Studebaker began as the Studebaker Brothers Manufacturing Company. The company endured for 114 years spanning more than a century of technological progress. Their Conestoga covered wagons crossed the frontier. By the 1920's Studebaker was the largest manufacturer of wheeled vehicles in the world. The 1927 Erskine was a highlight of that era. Raymond Loewy's post World War II bullet nose designs made Studebaker highly visible and established a policy of innovative design. New company president Sherwood Egbert called in Loewy to design a sports car in 1961. By 1962 Studebaker had produced one of the most unique vehicles of the 20th century: the Avanti. Avanti production ended in December 1963 and Studebaker's automotive division ended limited production of the Daytona Cruiser in Canada in 1966.
