| "The Soul Snatcher"
is a short fantasy film purported to feature a 1966 Avanti
II. The car in the film appears to be a 1963 Studebaker
and it seems unlikely that a 1966 Avanti II managed to get
filmed in 1965. The images of the car clearly show the 1963-64
Studebaker hood
emblem. Directed by H.L. Zimmer and filmed in New York
City. Diane Webster plays Cathy who is trying to get a job
as a model and is constantly being turned down. She has two
roommates and feels guilty that she cannot pay her share of
the rent. Then, at a party, the Devil appears to her. He gives
her a pair of golden shoes to wear and says she will be popular
and have a great life if she wears them. She makes the deal,
changing her life for the better until she takes off her shoes.
Webster and most of the other "actors" had minimal
filmographies (Jo Ann March - uncredited part in Robin and
the Seven Hoods; Gloria Prince - small part in the Enforcer
(1976) with Clint Eastwood; with Hilda Goring, Fred Dennie,
and Lou Johnson) except for Scott Peters who had parts in
at least 4 classic science fiction films of the 50s (Invasion
of the Saucer Men (1957), The Amazing Colossal Man (1957),
Attack of the Puppet People (1958), Panic in the Year Zero
(1962) with Ray Milland) and numerous 50s and 60s TV shows
(Bonanza, Gomer Pyle, The Untouchables, Gunsmoke, Highway
Patrol). The whole movie was narrated (by Joel Holt as Dan
Hughs and by Pam Summers) and there is plenty of hilariously
inappropriate music. The acting is pretty bad, there's a fairly
interesting PG-13 strip tease, and an ending that doesn't
make any sense. It is not quite Ed Wood calibre, but it's
one of those films that are so bad they are fun to watch.
