| Raymond Loewy
had several lithographs created by the American Atelier in New
York City based on his original designs.
Using his 1961 design for the Avanti as a model, mylar sheets
were prepared, under Loewy's direction,
and then chemically transferred onto emulsion-coated aluminum
lithographic plates. A first proof was pulled then Loewy
made numerous linear and color corrections by hand. A corrected
second proof was pulled and approved by the artist. The entire
edition was then pulled one color at a time. The number of impressions
of each lithograph was approximately 370. Each print in the
edition was inspected and initialed by hand in pencil by Loewy
at the American Atelier in December 1978. Lithographs
in the Avanti Gallery The others became artists proofs and
presentation proofs. In addition to the Avanti, lithographs
were created for the S1 and T1 locomotives,
the hydrofoil boat, Air Force One, and the NASA Skylab project.
