The original 1967 Chevrolet Camaro
and Pontiac Firebird were indirect descendants of the Studebaker
Avanti, but both were also highly influenced by the phenomenal
success of the early Ford Mustangs.
Like so many of the sixties "pony cars" the Camaro's
styling gradually descended into mediocraty and was eventually
discontinued. Chevrolet revived the Camaro design in 2006 as
a Camaro Concept car. This eventually evolved into the "Bumblebee
Camaro" featured in the blockbuster movie, "Transformers"
a film based on the highly successful line of toy robots. The
design nicely captures the spirit of the original while also
adding the style and power of more costly exotics. If only someone
would do the same for the even more deserving Avanti!
