"From the Advanced Thinking of Studebaker.
America's Most Advanced Automobile: The Avanti. A 4-passenger,
high performance prestige car. Exciting aerodynamic wedge
design, power disc brakes, built-in
steel safety arch above passenger compartment. Options
include Power Shift automatic, supercharged engine,
4-speed stick shift."
The photograph on the left shows the Avanti
parked in front of a modern residence where people are gathered
in evening dress. The figure at the far right is Raymond Loewy
and to his right with hand on the door frame is Sherwood Egbert.
The setting may be inside a studio, but is more likely a house
in Palm Springs, California. The car shown is probably painted
Avanti Gold. The photograph on the right
was created as part of Studebaker's
Avanti advertising campaign. This car, like others used in
the ads, was dramatically lit from inside the passenger compartment.
These ads both show solid color interiors although most 1963
Avantis had the 2-toned interiors favored by designer, Raymond
Loewy. By August of 1963 Studebaker
began installing the solid color interiors preferred by corporate
management. Like other cars used in Studebaker's
advertising, this Avanti may have been painted with a standard
1963 Studebaker color, not one
of the six "Avanti" colors.
